Smokefree Venues NSW : Urgent: please act to make working and eating areas 100% smokefree

SMOKING AREAS IN NSW LICENSED VENUES
ARE A PUBLIC HEALTH & O.H.S. HAZARD

They also conflict with international law
and disability discrimination

NSW lags well behind Australian and international best practice. If Queensland can separate smoking from eating and working areas, why has NSW still not done it?

The NSW government promised in 2004 a "total indoor smoking ban" in licensed venues - pubs, clubs and gaming rooms. Five years later, fake "outdoor" (partly/mostly enclosed) smoking areas in these venues - and eating venues - are still exposing thousands of people every day/night to appalling levels of toxic, carcinogenic secondhand smoke.

Meanwhile Queensland since 2006 has separated smoking from eating and gaming areas - with strong public approval. NSW needs to do what Queensland has done - stand up to the gambling lobby and protect public health and work safety.

Send an email NOW to Premier Keneally and her team, and Opposition Leader O'Farrell and his team, urging reform of the weak NSW laws to get these workplaces safe.
