September 2 - 8	National Child Protection Week	Fight the myth of smoking as an "adult choice." 90% of new smokers are children. We need out-of-sight sales and retailer registration to help stem childhood recruitment and addiction - see www.ashaust.org.au/lv3/action_POS.htm. September 8	International Literacy Day	Emphasise tobacco targeting of the less literate. Highlight need for quicker introduction and regular updating of graphic picture-based warnings on packets to help our most vulnerable - including children. September 24	World Heart Day	Smoking causes 1 in 4 cases of heart disease. Heart disease rate could be slashed if we reduced smoking rates - and secondhand smoke exposure in public places.
