August 1 - 7   World Breastfeeding  Week   Use evidence to warn how cigarette smoke toxins are passed on to babies through  breast milk, and through passive smoking. See  www.ashaust.org.au/mediareleases/mr_20030619.htm and also latest research at www.ashaust.org.au/lv3/Lv3resources_health_reports.htm   For more on the week internationally, see  http://worldbreastfeedingweek.org/  and on breastfeeding in Australia, see www.breastfeeding.asn.au/.
August 3 Jeans for Genes Day A chance to highlight the shocking genetic damage done by tobacco - see studies on gene harm linked to obesity transmission and prostate cancer progress at www.ashaust.org.au/lv3/Lv3resources_health_reports.htm   More on the day at www.jeans4genes.com.au

August 9

International Day for the World’s Indigenous Peoples

Opportunity to work with Aboriginal & TSI groups to help reduce appalling (and not falling) smoking rates: 42% women, 59% men. These communities need more on-the-ground support to get smoking rates down. More: www.ashaust.org.au/lv3/Lv3informationindigenous.htm.

August 12 International Youth Day Theme of this year's UN-initiated day is youth in development. Highlight exploitation of youth worldwide by tobacco industry, and effective measures to reduce youth smoking and prevent uptake - see www.ashaust.org.au/lv3/action_POS.htm and student pages at www.ashaust.org.au. More on the day at www.un.org/esa/socdev/unyin/iyouthday.htm

August 19 - 25
